In a recent customer survey we uncovered some of the UK’s worst Valentine’s Day gifts.
We received over 1,500 responses to our recent customer survey which asked participants about their Valentine’s Day habits and experiences.
Over half of the participants said that they did celebrate Valentine’s Day and submitted some of the best and worst gifts they’d received in the past.
One unfortunate participant said: “A slow cooker! Not impressed. My husband thought it was a great gift and it was even reduced at Tesco! Not romantic at all! We’ve been married 32 years!”
Another said: “A tea set – it was in a box and I thought it was a puppy- I was so upset, I was sure it was a puppy.”
But one of the saddest gifts has to be the unfinished pond, “My husband dug up the garden and left a large hole in it. I never got my pond.”
Other answers included a hoover, paint rollers, oven gloves, a kitchen bin, squeaky knickers and an unexpected break-up text.
However, these were accompanied by plenty of lovely gifts including, nights away, spa breaks, cruises, meals out, flowers, jewellery and surprise engagements.
30% of participants said the worst thing they’d received on Valentine’s Day was nothing at all – if you’ve not sorted something for your significant other yet, there’s still time, check out our Pure Romance Collection for inspiration!
Over 70% of people also spilled the tea that their chances of getting lucky on a romantic night away are higher than if they’d decided to stay at home for Valentine’s Day. They described the perfect night away as one that included a candlelit dinner, drinks by an open fire and relaxing spa treatments – which bodes incredibly well for us seeing as the majority of our packages include just that!
We also asked participants about the most romantic places they had been. Answers obviously included the likes of Paris, Rome, the Caribbean and the Maldives. But, the UK featured more than you might expect, with the Lake District, the Cotswolds, Cornwall and even Lyme Regis being named as people’s most romantic locations.
Overwhelmingly, 94% of participants said they’d most like to receive a romantic night away as a Valentine’s Day gift, fortunately our vouchers can be delivered instantly via email!
