An insider’s guide to making the most of spa retreats in Yorkshire

Yorkshire, known often as “God’s Own County” and sometimes even as “the Texas of Britain”, is the largest county in the UK and arguably one of the most impressive. Home to the picturesque landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales, the quietly undulating hills of the Yorkshire Wolds and the strikingly atmospheric Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire really is a county like no other. With such an abundance of outdoor space, natural beauty and amazing wildlife, Yorkshire really is one of the best places to visit for a calming and restorative spa retreat.

With all that being said, as you can imagine, spa retreats in Yorkshire are incredibly popular, so if you’re lucky enough to have one booked, or you’re considering booking one soon, it’s important you make the most of your spa experience. Thankfully, that’s where we can help.

In this insider’s guide, we’re sharing all of our top tips, do’s and don’ts to help you get the absolute best out of your next spa retreat in Yorkshire. Here’s what you need to know…

It’s all about location, location, location

As the largest county in the UK, perhaps unsurprisingly, location matters when you’re choosing where to stay for your Yorkshire spa retreat. If you don’t do your research, you can easily end up in the middle of nowhere, which might be exactly what you’re looking for, but if you do fancy venturing into some of the county’s best towns and cities during your spa retreat, then be sure to consult a map and check your travel times.

For a Yorkshire spa retreat well away from the hustle and bustle of the county’s cities, then you can’t do much better than Swinton Park Estate. Just nestled on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and close to the Nidderdale National Landscape, this hotel and spa is in an idyllic spot for making the most of nature, getting away from city life, and indulging in a relaxing and tranquil spa weekend.

Alternatively, if you do want all of the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside, but with a lively city not too far away, then The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa is ideally placed. Sitting at the bottom edge of the Yorkshire Dales, it’s still within an hour’s drive of Leeds city centre.

Once you’ve got the location sorted for your spa retreat in Yorkshire, then the next step is to really make sure you get the most out of your time there and speaking of time…

Timings are everything

With any hotel stay, you’ll know that when you book, you’ll be given a check in and check out time for the hotel you’ve chosen. No surprises there and spa hotels are no different but, did you know, even though your check in time may be three in the afternoon, most hotels will welcome you to use their spa facilities from much earlier in the day?

Our top tip for getting the most out of your wellness retreat, is to check your timings for everything before you arrive. Then you can plan to arrive early enough to head straight to the steam rooms or the sauna and start relaxing from the get go. Checking your spa access times with your hotel can get you as much as four or five hours more time to relax and unwind in their luxurious facilities, than simply arriving in time to check in.

Our second top tip is all about spa treatments. We mentioned at the very start of this article that spa retreats in Yorkshire, especially in luxury spa hotels like the Swinton Spa Estate and The Devonshire Arms are highly sought after, so bookings for spa treatments get snapped up quickly. To avoid disappointment, we’d always recommend booking your spa treatments at the same time as you book your spa retreat. Don’t wait until the day of your stay, as often no appointment times are available at such short notice.

Save on the booking and spend more on your stay

When it comes to spa retreats, especially in high end, luxury hotels, often the stay comes at a premium. And that’s to be expected when you’re looking at five star accommodation, award winning hotel restaurants and spa facilities that include everything from vitality pools to saunas, steam rooms, rasul chambers, spa lounges, meditation rooms, salt rooms, wild swimming spots and even woodland wellbeing spaces

But did you know that booking with us means you could get all of this luxury for less? Not only that, our spa retreat offers help you save even more money on booking your spa retreat, so you can indulge more when you’re there. Whether that’s treating yourself to new beauty products from the spa boutique or simply wining and dining during your stay. In other words, do your research and make sure you’re getting the best deal for your spa retreat.

Not quite Yorkshire, but just as luxurious

Finally if you can’t find availability in any of our luxurious spa hotels in Yorkshire, then we can recommend a couple of alternatives that aren’t too far away. In fact, the The Morritt Hotel and Spa is just over the border in County Durham and still within easy reach of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Alternatively, you may also be interested in Headlam Hall near Darlington, an impressive 17th century country house retreat also close to Yorkshire.

So there you have it, our insider’s guide to helping you make the most of spa retreats in Yorkshire: find the best location for you, check your timings with the hotel, book your spa treatments well in advance, shop around for the best spa retreat offers and last but by no means least, if you can’t find what you’re looking for in Yorkshire, then hop over the border into the neighbouring county of County Durham and you can get all of the same easy access to the amazing Yorkshire countryside, just without the Yorkshire postcode.
